However, he's also chosen to move beyond the deaths of his own parents rather than being held captive by the event as Bruce Wayne does (arguably making him a more effective hero). Having grown up to become his own man, Grayson takes what he's learned from Batman to become the hero known as Nightwing. Not only is Blüdhaven the nearby sister city of Gotham in the DC Universe, it also falls under the protection of Batman's first Robin, Dick Grayson. Even outside of the movie world, the only appearance of Robin in live-action has been in the TV series Titans where, despite there being a plethora of Robins (with three characters having carried the title by the end of Titans season 4), they are rarely seen in significant supporting roles and their dynamic is always strained by their shared past or represented in flashbacks. As such, it's been almost 25 years since an actual live-action Robin has had Batman's back in a movie. However, he was not a traditional Robin with the name being a homage more than anything else, revealed just before he was given access to the Batcave to become the next Batman himself. Sadly, the beginnings of the DCEU revealed that a Robin had already been killed by the Joker by the time audience met Ben Affleck's Batman. Aside from the Schumacher Batman films, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Officer Blake was revealed to have the first name "Robin" at the end of the Dark Knight trilogy. However, eventually having a Robin by his side would reintroduce a dynamic that's long been missing in Batman films. Seeing as how The Batman takes place during year two of Bruce Wayne's vigilante career, it's still fairly early for him to take on a ward and eventual sidekick. However, perhaps that could change with future sequels set in Reeves' version of Gotham City. Unfortunately, Batman films haven't had a living Robin on-screen since Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin with Chris O'Donnell in the role of Dick Grayson. While The Batman sees Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne on his own without a Boy Wonder, there are a few teases in the film from director Matt Reeves that may hint at a future with Robin.
